2018 SPRING NATIONAL UPDATE

As we enter spring, we are taking a moment to look back with pride at what was accomplished by Jewish Federations of Canada - UIA and its partners and affiliates in the first 4 months of 2018. Here are a few highlights that illustrate our organizational mission to connect Jewish Canadians and communities to each other and to Israel.

CANADA ISRAEL EXPERIENCE WINS AWARD

Kol Hakavod to Canada Israel Experience on being recognized by Taglit-Birthright Israel with an award for “Overall Excellence” during the annual trip organizer’s meetings in Jerusalem, for the 2nd year in a row.


   
FRIENDS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS BIRTHRIGHT EXPERIENCE

The 2nd annual Friends with Special Needs Birthright Israel trip for young adults with cognitive special needs was filled with countless extraordinary moments that left participants with lasting memories.

RECORD SETTING WINTER BIRTHRIGHT SEASON

Canada Israel Experience had one of the biggest Birthright Israel winter seasons ever, with 300 Canadian participants,15 dedicated trip leaders, and 8 educators.


    
OTTAWA FLY-IN ON DISABILITIES & INCLUSION

Jewish communal leaders and individuals with disabilities and their families came together for education, advocacy and one-on-one sessions with elected officials on the 2nd Ottawa Fly-In on Disabilities and Inclusion.

SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY

At Southern Hospitality, 133 Canadian Lions of Judah were inspired by the film Operation Wedding, a documentary that shared the courage of filmmaker Anat Zalmanson-Kuznetsov's parents and depicted the strength of the Jews worldwide who came together to fight for the freedom of the Jews in the former Soviet Union.

WESTERN HOSPITALITY
Over 70 Canadians from Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton gathered in Palm Springs to hear Richard Sandler, Chair of Jewish Federations of North America, speak about the important role that Federations and community foundations play in supporting Israel and the global Jewish community.


30th MARCH OF THE LIVING
The 30th annual March of the Living brought 750 Canadians to Poland and Israel on a life-transforming journey. Since 1988, 13,000 Canadians have experienced this intense journey that brings you through the tragic history of European Jewry to modern day Israel to celebrate the Jewish homeland.

   PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES
Over 150 people from across Canada, each dedicated to creating inclusive Jewish communities, explored how Jewish communal organizations have adapted and created programming that leaves no person out, at Pushing the Boundaries: Disability, Inclusion & Jewish Community. The conference was co-hosted by JFC-UIA, UJA Toronto, DANI & MNJCC.

 ISRAEL MEETINGS
Nine community leaders attended the 70th anniversary board meeting of the JDC and the Jewish Agency February meeting in Israel. Topics explored included the challenge of engaging small diminishing communities - like those in Turkey, Tunisia, Morocco, India and Singapore.
