The United Jewish Appeal of Canada (UJAC) campaign is your opportunity to join a vital global network nurturing Jewish communities around the world. Your gift enacts the Jewish values of compassion, generosity, and responsibility. It makes the world a better place.
With your donation, you contribute to the national Jewish community conversation, where many voices – from small communities to large – are heard and where common ground is found to protect and preserve our identity and safety in Canada, in Israel, and worldwide.
We magnify the impact of your gift by working with organizations such as The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA), The Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI) and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC).
Antisemitism is neither distant nor relegated to the past. It is here. It is now. By supporting CIJA, the advocacy agent of Jewish Federations across Canada, you fight antisemitism. Visit Fightit.ca to learn about the dangers of antisemitism and online hate.
In August, after it emerged that Canadian Heritage had allocated funds to a documented antisemite, CIJA expresed the community's outrage to Minister Hussen, whose response included not only a pledge to meet all CIJA's demands to improve vetting policies across government agencies but also an apology for the hurt caused and a commitment to ensure such misappropriations would not recur.
And after Leader Jagmeet Singh outlined demands regarding the Israeli-Palenstinian conflict in which he blamed Israel entirely and urged Canada to reverse our relationship with Israel, CIJA generated thousands of community responses urging his party to work toward peace and rescind this divisive policy.
In Ukraine, where JAFI has worked for decades, they are needed now more than ever.
Almost six million refugees have fled Ukraine. Israel has responded by flying more than 10,000 Ukrainian Jews to Israel to rebuild their lives there. At Ukraine's borders, JAFI assisted Ukrainian Jewish refugees with healthcare, shelter, and critical supplies.
JAFI also provided transportation to evacuate citizens under fire and helped expedite Israeli immigration and absorption processes for refugees in Poland, Romania, Hungary, Moldova, and Ukraine itself.
The JDC has been a leading global Jewish humanitarian organization for over a century.
Eldercare is a cornerstone of the work of the JDC. It enures that thousands of impoverished Jewish seniors around the world never need choose between food and medicine and that they know they are a cherished part of our community.
In the former Soviet Union, JDC provides life-saving aid to 80,000 vulnerable Jewish seniors, many of them Holocaust Survivors without family or government support who struggle to survive on pensions as low as $2 per day. JDC provides the priceless hallmarks of community life — traditions and companionship — that allow them to live with dignity, joy, and hope.
In the wake of COVID-19, JDC also worked with Jewish communities from Latin America to North Africa to support thousands of new Jewish poor harmed by the pandemic.
