MICHAEL CAPE
CHAIR

Michael Cape holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree from McGill University (1961) and a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the Université de Montréal (1965). In 1961, he joined Professional Pharmaceutical Corp., which later became Groupe Marcelle in 2005. He served as President from 1974 until 2003, at which point he transitioned to the role of Chairman.
A dedicated community leader, Michael has been an active volunteer in the Montreal Jewish community for over 50 years. His involvement began in 1955 as a teenager when he served as Chair of the Youth Division of the Federation of Jewish Community Services' annual campaign. He has held various leadership roles at Congregation Shaar Hashomayim, including Treasurer, Vice-President, and President (1995–1997). From 2004 to 2006, Michael served as President of Jewish Employment Montreal (JEM) and chaired its capital campaign for the JEM Sheltered Workshop in 2006. In 2007, he was appointed General Chair of the Combined Jewish Appeal Campaign. He served on the Executive Committee of Federation CJA from 2008 to 2011.
Michael recently completed nine years on the Board of Directors of Agence Ometz, a social service agency created in 2008 through the merger of JIAS (Jewish Immigrant Aid Services), JFS (Jewish Family Services), and JEM (Jewish Employment Montreal). He also served on the Boards of the BDH Foundation and the JEM Workshop and currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Baron de Hirsch Cemetery.
At Jewish Federations of Canada – UIA, Michael served as Treasurer from 2022 to 2025 and was appointed Chair of the Board in June 2025.
Michael was married to the late Maureen Weitz Cape. He is the proud father of three children and grandfather to eight grandsons and one granddaughter. He also has two stepdaughters and three step-grandsons.
