Director General, Israel
Yossi Tanuri, a fifth-generation Jerusalemite, is the youngest director in the 40-year history of the organization. As a commander in an elite unit in the Israeli Defense Forces, Yossi participated in various operations throughout Israel and Lebanon. After completing his army service in 1991, he obtained a BA in Political Science followed by an MA in 1998 in Communications, from Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Over the course of the last 20 years he has been involved in fundraising and investments in excess of US$1 billion for both the business and philanthropic sector. Mr. Tanuri also served in a few top executive positions for Keren Hayesod and United Israel Appeal the Jerusalem-based headquarters worldwide of the UJA - United Jewish Appeal/CJA - Combined Jewish Appeal, including Executive Director for Major Gifts worldwide, working with the top philanthropists and Jewish leaders around the world.
Yossi’s close relationship with the top political leadership of the State of Israel and his knowledge and understanding of North American Jewry are instrumental in creating and strengthening the bridges between Israel and Canada.
Under Yossi’s leadership, JFC-UIA received an award from the Prime Minister of the State of Israel for the organization’s commitment and aid to the people of the North and to the Israeli government during the Second Lebanon War.
Yossi serves on numerous charitable and civic boards of directors as well as teaches and lectures in various institutions.
